Privacy Policy
BooksMade Spades (“we”, “us”, or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use the BooksMade Spades mobile application (the “App”). Your use of the App is also governed by our Terms of Use.
1. Information We Collect
Account & authentication:
- Email address (provided via one-time passcode, or via Apple/Google sign-in)
- Display name (user-defined, or provided by Apple/Google sign-in)
- Full name, if provided to us by Apple or Google when you sign in using those services
- Profile avatar
- A public player ID used to reference your account across the app (e.g. leaderboards, game invites)
We do not collect or store your password or any sensitive authentication credentials — those are handled directly by our authentication provider or by Apple/Google sign-in.
Gameplay & activity:
- Games and leagues you create or join
- Ratings, win/loss history, and streaks
- In-game chat messages
- Your spectator visibility preference (whether other users can see your cards while you are being spectated)
- Voice chat audio, if you use in-game voice chat — this is relayed in real time through our voice provider and is not recorded or stored by us
Device & advertising:
- A device push-notification token, if you enable notifications
- Advertising and device identifiers, collected by our advertising partner for users who are shown ads (see Section 2)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure
- Allow you to access and interact with your leagues and games
- Identify you to other users by your display name and avatar
- Track ratings, standings, and game history
- Send push notifications, if enabled
- Monitor, diagnose, and fix errors and technical issues
- Process Premium Access, league creation, and League Pro boost purchases
Non-Premium Access users are shown advertising within the app through our advertising partner, Google Mobile Ads. Depending on your location and consent choices, this advertising may be personalized. Where required by law (such as in the EEA/UK), we only show personalized ads after you consent. If you are a California resident, or a resident of a U.S. state with a similar law, you have the right to opt out of this — see Section 6.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with the third-party service providers who help us operate the app:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting
- RevenueCat, and the Apple App Store / Google Play — processing Premium Access, league creation, and League Pro boost purchases
- Sentry — error and crash monitoring
- LiveKit — real-time voice chat relay (audio is not recorded or stored by us)
- Google Mobile Ads — advertising, including personalized advertising where you have consented to or not opted out of it
- Apple and Google — if you sign in using Apple or Google, they provide us your email and, where available, your name
These providers process data on our behalf to operate the app. Sharing data with our advertising partner for personalized advertising may be considered “sharing” under California law — see Section 6 for how to opt out.
Some users organize leagues, tournaments, and events for other users. We do not collect, process, or store any payment or financial information related to entry-fee or prize arrangements between organizers and players, because those arrangements occur entirely outside the App — see our Terms of Use for details.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data (including email, display name, avatar, ratings and game history, and game/league content) as long as your account is active.
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at privacy@booksmadespades.com.
5. Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format

6. Your Rights Under California Law
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and share
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information — including data shared with our advertising partner for personalized advertising (see Sections 2 and 3)
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights
You can opt out of personalized advertising directly in the app, under Profile → Ad Privacy Options (shown where required by law). To exercise any other right above, contact us at privacy@booksmadespades.com. Residents of other U.S. states with similar privacy laws have comparable rights, which we honor in the same way.
7. Data Security
We use Supabase, a secure platform, to manage authentication and data storage. All communication is encrypted using HTTPS.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes within the app or by email.
