FOUR CARDS
ABOVE THE ACE.
JJ22 — also called JJDD — is the Spades variant serious players prefer. The two Jokers and the two special Deuces sit above every other card in the deck, and every bid, every cut, every read has to account for them. BooksMade Spades was built for it.
THE CARD HIERARCHY
In JJ22 the deck is stacked on top. Four cards outrank the Ace of Spades, and all four play as trump. Everything below the Ace follows the standard Spades hierarchy.
- #01★Big JokerHighest card in the deck
- #02☆Little JokerSecond-highest
- #032♦Deuce of DiamondsThird-highest — plays as trump
- #042♠Deuce of SpadesFourth-highest — plays as trump
- #05A♠Ace of SpadesHighest natural Spade
- #06K♠King of SpadesStandard Spade hierarchy from here down
- #073♠3 of SpadesLowest trump
WHY IT CHANGES THE GAME
The Ace isn't safe.
Four cards can take your Ace of Spades. Leading it isn't a guaranteed book anymore — it's a read.
Bidding gets sharper.
Any hand with a Joker or a power 2 has locked winners. Miscount them and your team bags out or gets set.
Cutting costs more.
You need actual Spade strength to cut against a table that might be holding a Joker on the round.
Nil is heavier.
A blind Nil in JJ22 is bigger — and riskier. One rogue Joker in your hand and the round flips.

Automatic Card Ranking
The app knows Jokers and power 2s beat everything. You never touch a house-rules screen mid-game.
Ranked & Leagues, JJ22 First
JJ22 (labeled JJDD in-app) and Traditional Ace High both run natively — pick your ruleset per game.
House Rules That Behave
Toggle bags, blind bidding, and other rules without ever breaking the JJ22 card hierarchy.
MASTERING JJ22
- 01
Save your power cards.
Don't burn Jokers or 2s on tricks you'd already win. They're insurance on the rounds that get thin.
- 02
Watch the count.
Track which of the four have hit the table. Knowing there are none left changes how you spend your Ace.
- 03
Bid what's locked, not what's hopeful.
Jokers and 2s are locked books. Ace-suited runs are not. Weight them differently when you bid.
- 04
Communicate through leads.
A Joker lead early tells your partner where you're strong. Say things without saying them.

THE COMMON QUESTIONS
01Is JJ22 the same as JJDD?+
Yes. JJ22 (Joker Joker Deuce Deuce) and JJDD are two names for the exact same variant. BooksMade Spades labels it JJDD in-app.
02Do the 2♦ and 2♠ play as trump?+
Yes. Both the 2♦ and the 2♠ act as trump in JJ22 — meaning they can be played on any non-trump lead and they still win.
03What about the other two 2s?+
The 2♥ and 2♣ are ordinary low cards in their own suits. Only the 2♦ and 2♠ carry power in JJ22.
04Can I still play Traditional Ace High?+
Yes. BooksMade Spades supports both variants. Toggle it when you create a CREW lobby or a League.
